STEPS TO CREATING NEW HABITS

STEPS TO CREATING NEW HABITS

Let’s talk about forming new habits. We all have times in our lives where we intentionally want to change our behavior for the better and create new habits for ourselves.

This could be getting in the habit of eating healthier and drinking more water. Or it could be moving more and taking the dog for a daily walk. Or it could be work related, or spiritual, or… There are so many areas in our lives that could be improved and made easier if we created new habits.

Getting into the habit of doing something is often easier said than done. We seem to acquire bad habits without any effort, but getting into a “good” habit can be a little more challenging.

Let’s break it down into a three-step process that makes it easy to follow until we’ve internalized the new behavior and made it a true habit – something we do automatically without having to think about, like brushing our teeth.

  • Decide What You Want To Do  The first step is to decide what you want that new habit to be. Be as specific as possible. Don’t just tell yourself you want to exercise more. Instead say something like “I will go for a 30 minute walk every single day”.
  • Deciding what your new habit will be and committing to when and how you’re going to do it, is half the battle.  Remind Yourself To Get It Done  The next few days should be smooth sailing. You’re motivated and excited to get this done.
  • Sticking to your new habit isn’t an issue. But a few days in you’ll notice that it’s easy to slip back into old habits.  Maybe it’s raining and you don’t really want to go out and walk. Or maybe your day just gets away from you.

This is when it’s important to have a daily reminder. Set an alert on your phone or add the new habit to your daily to-do list for a while.  Make It Part Of Your Routine Until It Becomes A Habit  Which brings us to the last step.

It takes some time before a new behavior becomes a true habit. Until then, a routine will work to your best advantage. Even before the new behavior becomes automatic, a routine will help you get it done without having to spend a lot of willpower or relying on daily reminders.

Make that daily walk part of your after dinner routine, or change from grabbing a snack at the vending machine at work at 10:00 in the morning to packing a healthy snack.

Congratulations! Decide to create the new habit, practice the routine until it’s second nature and you’ll be well on your way to forming a new good habit.

Email Marketing Tips: Get Them To Open Your Emails

Email Marketing Tips: Get Them To Open Your Emails

What You Need To Know About Email Deliverability You’re spending a lot of time each week crafting emails to your subscribers, but none of that will do you any good if you don’t have a decent delivery rate. If those email land in your potential customers’ spam folders, you don’t have much of a chance of making a sale or building a relationship with them.

Here are three tips that will help ensure that your email makes it to your subscribers’ inboxes.

* Set Up a Buffet ñ Instead of bringing the food to the table, you can use a long card table covered with a plane burlap table cloth, and a festive holiday runner down the center. Place all the food on top of the buffet. Decorate the wall behind the buffet with fall leaves and twinkle light garland.

* Stack Your Dishes ñ Dishes donít have to match to make a beautiful table. Most people like to get up and get seconds from the buffet, so stack the dishes on top of each other at each setting. You can find extra dishes at the Goodwill or other thrift stores. If you mix and match the table with sizes and colors, everything will look good.

* Set Up Stations ñ Another great idea is to set up different areas for different parts of the meal. An appetizer area in the living room, the main course in the dining room, dessert by the fire. Set it all up with some autumn dÈcor such as gourds, pumpkins, apples, pinecones, and fall flowers to set the mood.

You can set up areas of interest in different places. In the bathroom, hang fall-colored guest towels and put out fall-scented hand soap, and add little touches throughout the house. Add some garland to family photo displays, and set up some potpourri in areas that people congregate to bring in the feeling of fall in the air they breathe.

Use A Reputable Auto Responder Service  Using a reputable auto responder service is the single best thing you can do to improve your chances of avoiding spam folders. Companies like Aweber, Mail Chimp and Get Response work hard at making sure they are white listed with the big Internet Service Providers and email providers like Gmail. Most auto responder companies will list their delivery stats. In addition the good ones will make sure your emails are compliant and keep you out of hot water.

Set Expectations and Keep Them  Your chances of staying in the main inbox are high when your subscribers regularly open your email. The best way to insure that – outside of providing great content that your subscribers are looking for – is to set expectations from the beginning. Let your subscribers know early on when and how often they can expect an email from you.

You can even use “foreshadowing” in your messages. For example, toward the end of your current broadcast email, mention that they can look for another email from you next Tuesday.  Once you’ve set those expectations do what you can to meet them. Yes, things happen every once in a while.

In general though, do your best to keep your promise and email when your readers expect it. Doing this regularly will improve your open rates and thus your overall deliverability.  Clean Up Your List Regularly  Another good habit is to clean up your list regularly.

If subscribers haven’t been opening your emails for the past six month, chances are good they are no longer interested in what you have to offer.  Check your auto responder services manual or help files to see how you can go about deleting anyone that hasn’t opened an email from you in the past six months.

If that freaks you out, or you have a seasonal business, start by deleting anyone that hasn’t looked at your emails in the past year.  Following these tips and keeping an eye on email deliverability, in general, will make sure your emails are being read by your subscribers and that’s the point of email marketing, isn’t it?

Walking is the Perfect Low Impact Exercise

Walking is the Perfect Low Impact Exercise

If you haven’t exercise in a while or are looking for something easy you can do every single day give walking a try. It’s the perfect low impact way to exercise.

It’s easy to do, you don’t need any special equipment and you can start at the fitness level you’re at.  If you’re not in the best of shape, start by going for a 10 or 15 minute walk around the neighborhood and work your way up from there. If you’re already in great shape, walking can still provide an effective workout.

Walk fast and incorporate some hills and even stairs.  But, let’s not get ahead of ourselves here. If you’re like most of us, chances are you haven’t exercised much since you got out of college and need to start small. Maybe your doctor suggested that you move around more, or maybe you just want to be proactive about your health and well-being.

In either case, walking is the perfect way to start.  Find a pair of comfortable shoes, put them on and go for a stroll through your neighborhood. You could also find a local park with a nice path you can walk on. If the weather doesn’t permit walking outside, head to your local mall and walk or hop on a treadmill.

You can even walk in place at home in front of your TV. Here’s a simple little idea to get you moving more. As you’re sitting on the couch at night watching TV, get up during commercial breaks and march in place until your favorite TV show comes back on.

If you’re using a service like Netflix, make yourself walk in place for 10 minutes in between episodes. Or turn on the TV and challenge yourself to march in place during the entire show. Time will fly while you’re having fun watching TV and moving.

Speaking of having fun, going for a walk outside can be a lot of fun too. Mix up your route and walk in different areas of town, or visit different parks. Invite a friend to come along with you to walk. It’s always nice to have someone to talk to and having a walking buddy keeps you accountable.

Last but not least, grab your phone or MP3 player and listen to music or audio books as you walk to make the time go by faster.  The main thing is that you get out there, move around, and get some exercise in a way that’s gentle on your joints, your heart, and the rest of your body and that’s what walking will do for you.

Just give it a try and see if you don’t start to feel better, happier, and stronger after a few weeks of regular walks.  Invite a friend to come along with you to walk. It’s always nice to have someone to talk to and having a walking buddy keeps you accountable.

3 Simple Ways to Boost Your Immune System

3 Simple Ways to Boost Your Immune System

We all have times when we could use a little extra boost to our immune system. Cold and flu season are certainly part of that time, or the long winter weeks when we’re stuck inside and more likely to catch something.

It’s also important anytime you board a plane or when your kids start school. Here are three simple things you can do daily to strengthen your immune system. Which brings up a good point: For best results, implement daily.

Let’s start.  Eat Plenty of Fresh Fruits and Vegetables  All systems of your body work best when they are properly fed. This includes your immune system. Stick to a mainly whole foods based diet that includes plenty of fresh fruits and vegetables.

If you feel like you might be a little under the weather or suspect that you may have come into contact with someone sick, increasing your intake of Vitamin C may help as well. Eat a few citrus fruits. Broccoli, cauliflower, and kale are other great options.

Avoid eating processed foods. It takes a lot of time and effort to digest them and you don’t want to weigh your body down with extra work when that energy could be used to boost your immune system, keep you from getting sick, or help you get well sooner.

Get Some Exercise  In addition to eating well, get out there and get regular exercise. For best results, work out in the fresh air. Something as simple as a daily quick walk can help you stay well and strengthen your body. It has the added benefit of helping you to de-stress.

I don’t have to tell you that you’re more likely to get sick when you are stressed out. Use daily exercise to destress and stay well. It will also help you with the last way to boost your immune system.  Make Time for Sleep  This last tip is easy to skip over, yet it is the most important one for most of us and the one that can give your immune system a great boost.

It’s getting enough sleep. Make the time to get seven to eight hours of sleep each night. Practice good sleep hygiene. Don’t let the word scare you. It means turning off your phone and other screens a few hours before bed.

Keep your bedroom calm, quiet, and at a temperature that encourages sleep. It also includes establishing and sticking to a bedtime routine. As an added bonus, you’ll feel more energized for everything else you have to do all day. Get Some Exercise  In addition to eating well, get out there and get regular exercise.

GRATITUDE—THANKFULLY GRATEFUL

GRATITUDE—THANKFULLY GRATEFUL

WHAT A DIFFERENCE A LITTLE BIT OF GRATITUDE MAKES Gratitude can be simply broken down to appreciating the good things in your life. It doesn’t always seem simple, though. When things are hectic or stressful, finding the silver lining can be challenging.

However, learning how to embrace gratitude can significantly boost your happiness. Being grateful offers a host of other benefits you’re probably not aware of, too.  Let’s take a closer look at the concept, ways it can improve your life and how to practice it.  ABOUT GRATITUDE There are many definitions of gratitude. Some people believe it’s a feeling or emotion.

Others look at it as more of a mood. Still, some folks believe gratitude is a personality trait a person exhibits. These can all be correct. In essence, It elicits satisfaction and appreciation in a person through feelings, actions or even inherent qualities.

However, even those of us who may be more inclined to feel grateful on a regular basis through our glass-half-full-optimism likely need to work on evoking such an outlook. Gratitude can be viewed as a practice or something you perform regularly.

Most people practice something because it benefits them. This is true of gratitude. As with other practices, you’ll get better at demonstrating gratitude the more you work at it.  THE BENEFITS OF EMBRACING GRATITUDE There are many benefits of gratitude; many of them have been scientifically proven.

Once you begin to understand these, chances are good that you’ll see why it’s so important to develop a grateful mindset. Gratitude can have a positive effect on both physical and mental health. Research has shown it to improve relaxation, sleep quality and energy levels.

Being thankful for your blessings can enhance your emotional wellness. You’ll deal better in crisis situations and find you’re more resilient when you’re able to look on the bright side. This can contribute to better relationships, too.

Appreciating the positives in life can simply make you feel happier.  WAYS TO PRACTICE GRATEFULNESS Recognizing your blessings may not come easily at first, but there are some ways to help make it a habit and a regular part of your routine.

One of the most convenient and impactful methods for cultivating appreciation is through keeping a journal. In this practice, you’ll write down three things each day that you’re grateful for, which makes it easier to notice and recognize those good things.

Meditation has also been shown to help. Also, making an effort to thank someone each day, for even the smallest thing, opens your eyes and heart to abundance. Giving back and doing good for others can provide tremendous perspective, as well.

Now you have a better idea of just what making a concerted effort to count your blessings can do for your life. Embracing and expressing gratitude are more important than many of us realize.  .
